Can I keep chickens if I have a dog?
Absolutely! Most dogs adapt well to chickens, especially when introduced properly. We provide a comprehensive guide on introducing pets to your new flock, and our coops are designed with secure fencing to keep everyone safe. Many of our customers have dogs that become protective guardians of their chickens.
How noisy are hens compared to roosters?
Hens are much quieter than roosters! While roosters crow loudly throughout the day, hens only make soft clucking sounds and occasional "egg songs" when they've laid an egg (lasting about 2-3 minutes). Most neighbors find the gentle sounds charming rather than disruptive. We only provide hens, never roosters.
What happens to my hens when I go on vacation?
No worries! For trips up to 3 days, chickens can manage with extra food and water. For longer vacations, we offer vacation care services where our team visits daily to collect eggs, refill food/water, and check on your flock. It's like having a pet sitter, but for chickens!
Are your eggs considered organic?
While we don't carry official organic certification, our hens are fed premium organic, non-GMO feed and have access to outdoor spaces for foraging. They're never given antibiotics or hormones. The result is eggs that meet or exceed organic standards in terms of quality, nutrition, and taste.
How long before hens start laying?
We only deliver hens that are already laying or about to start! Most of our hens are 16-20 weeks old when delivered, which is peak laying age. You can expect your first eggs within 2-5 days of delivery, though some may lay on their very first day in their new home.
What chicken breeds do you use?
We carefully select friendly, productive breeds perfect for backyards. Our favorites include Rhode Island Reds (excellent layers), Buff Orpingtons (gentle giants), Black Australorps (consistent producers), and Easter Eggers (colorful eggs). Each flock is customized based on your preferences for egg color, temperament, and production level.
What happens if I want to cancel my subscription?
We make it easy! Just give us 30 days notice and we'll handle the removal of the coop and chickens. We even help relocate the hens to partner farms where they'll continue to live happy lives.
Do you provide veterinary care?
Yes! All packages include regular health checks, and we have partnerships with local veterinarians for any medical needs. Emergency care is included in your subscription.
What about city regulations and permits?
We handle all the paperwork! Our team researches local regulations and obtains any necessary permits before installation. We're experts in navigating HOA rules and city ordinances.
